June 20th

The day before my birthday Caleb came and picked me up. I wasn't allowed to know what we were going to do or where we were going.

First he took me to lunch at Shea's Express. We both had some awesome salads.

Then we drove, and drove and drove.... Finally we parked on the side of the road and started hiking. First we went through a cornfield, and then through some woods, and then...

We arrived at a beautiful waterfall! We had fun getting our feet wet, and hiking around in the surrounding woods.

Art Museum

Father's Day weekend we visited the Museum of Art. They were just opening a new exhibit called "The Age of Armor". To celebrate the opening, there were people from the SCA (The Society for Creative Anachronism) all dressed up in medieval costume acting things out.

Our favorite activity was watching the swordfighting.

Jason took lots of pictures of all the armor. This picture is the front of a "Sallet Helmet" from the South of Germany.

This suit of armor, "3/4 Armor Cuirassier", is also from the south of Germany.

There were many weapons on display. This is a Warhammer.

Art Show

Yesterday we went to UAH to see an art show that John and his fellow students were putting on. The theme was Pacific Island--very interesting.

All the mountains, bushes and clouds were made of i's and eyes.

There were little tribal people all over.

Jason's Birthday

Last Friday was Jason's birthday. We celebrated by going to the Olive Garden for lunch. There was an ice cream cake with candles waiting for him at his parents that night.

Because of the "Exceptional Drought" in this area we were excited to see a very little bit of rain on his birthday.

Renaissance Festival

Memorial Day weekend was a full one for us. We went to Tennessee Renaissance Festival on Saturday. There was jousting, feasting, singing, story telling and many shops to browse. We even got to see Queen Elizabeth I.

One of many interesting people. You may notice that he has elf ears. Apparently there was a vendor who could make your ears grow... ;)

Mardi Gras

Back in February Jason and I went on a street ministry outreach to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Here are a few glimpses from that trip.
